Home Security Alarms – Wired Or Wireless Surveillance Cameras?

If you are looking to secure your home more and greatly reduce the chances of your home being broken into, a surveillance camera can add tremendous value. They are excellent deterrents to potential burglars and intruders because of their ability to record and help identify them. Many of today’s home security alarm systems come with at least one, and often several, surveillance cameras. However, some of the cameras are wired and other companies offer cameras that are wireless. Which type works best?

There is not simple answer since there are positives and negatives to both. Below is a list of each.

Wireless surveillance cameras. The biggest benefit to a wireless home security alarm and surveillance camera is that they are mobile. You can move them very easily in case you renovate your home or move. There is very little construction required to install them and since there is no drilling or cutting necessary, you can move them very easily.

The biggest disadvantage of a wireless system is the lower quality of the video feed or photograph that the camera provides. The resolution and overall quality of the image is not as good as it is with the wired version.

Wired surveillance cameras. They offer great pictures and secure settings but the construction involved to correctly install them is intense. Most people hire a professional to put them in and this can be very expensive. Also, once they are in place, they are there for good.

Wired cameras are more energy efficient. This is probably the biggest advantage of them. If a homeowner were to run their cameras all day and night, the energy savings can be very dramatic.
